General Information

Any absences must be notified by phoning the school prior to 9:00am. The phone number is 03 542 3666. Please state your child’s name, room number and the reason for their absence.

Nelson OSCAR (Out of School Care and Recreation) run after school and holiday programmes, based at Brightwater School. More information, including cost, is available from the OSCAR Co-ordinator on 545-6631

A whole school assembly takes place most Friday afternoons from approximately 2.15pm. Each class is responsible once a term to host our assembly.  This provides the opportunity for students to showcase their learning and develop performance skills and confidence in presentation.

Teachers use a variety of behaviour management strategies in their classrooms, focusing on reinforcing positive behaviours for learning. Teachers share these with you at our Meet the Teacher evenings at the start of each year and through class newsletters throughout the year.

Students are eligible to travel to and from school on the bus if they live more that 3.2km from school.  Please discuss this with the Principal when you enrol your child. As there is one bus that services the three bus runs careful organisation is required.

Parking is available outside of the school gate but this is at a premium at busy drop off and pick up times. Parents picking up or dropping off children are asked NOT TO PARK ACROSS THE GATEWAY OR ON THE BUS STOP.

Brightwater School offers a very well resourced library for our students to enjoy.  All classes visit the library at least once each week and children are encouraged to issue up to 2 books of interest.

Monday is “Subway” lunch day. You can logon to subway.co.nz/schools and order Monday lunch at any time during the week with a close off time of 9am Monday morning.

The preferred payment options for payments to the school are online payments or eftpos, cash is also accepted. The school ASB account number: 12 3158 0030748 00.

Although there is no need to enrol your child until the day he/she starts school, we do appreciate early advice and enrolment forms and general school information is available at the office for this purpose.

We aim to keep parents as fully informed on the achievement and progress of their children as is possible.

Scholastic Lucky Book Club Brochures are handed out to children to take home every so often. If you wish to purchase any books please complete the form and send it back to the school office with payment. If paying by cash please include the exact amount and place in an envelope.

Values are deeply held beliefs about what is important or desirable. They are expressed through the ways in which people think and act. Every decision relating to curriculum and every interaction that takes place in a school reflects the values of the individuals involved and the collective values of the institution.

Pupils of Brightwater School have the opportunity to have school banking through ASB – Richmond. To open an account complete a registration form and hand in to either the school office or Richmond ASB.

Individual, family, class  and sports team photos are usually taken towards the end of Term 3 by Heritage Productions Ltd. Order forms and sample photos will be sent home soon after photos are taken.

A full range of stationery is available for purchase from the school office.   At the beginning of each year a pack of all requirements is available for you to purchase for your child.
