Sunhats / Suncreen

Slip, Slop, Slap

The school has a sun-smart policy to educate children in preventing sun-burn and reducing the risk of melanoma later in life.

During Terms 1 and 4 it is compulsory for children to wear suitable hats with brims or flaps to protect necks, ears and faces. Caps are not suitable. The school has a ‘No hat, play in the shade’ policy. Several shaded areas have been developed in the playground and children without suitable hats will be restricted to these areas, the library and verandahs at lunchtimes during the sunnier months.

Children should also wear short or long sleeved tops (no singlets or thin shoulder straps please).

Sun-block is also essential. Please apply in the morning before school. Sunscreen is available in classrooms for top-ups during the day. Consideration will be given by teachers to the length of time students will spend outside in the Summer months.

New Zealand sunlight can have high levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV radiation can cause skin and eye damage. You can protect yourself and your children by being SunSmart. Learn how to keep safe while still living life in the sun.
